Moving Fragments: Visualising your inner message through collage making is een feministische poster-workshop van Yen Yi Lee. De workshop ontstond als reactie op de tentoonstelling In Our Own Backyards uit 2005 van Asia Art Archive, met werk van de Zuid-Aziatische kunstenaars Lala Rukh en Sheba Chhachhi.

Tijdens de workshop geeft Yen Yi Lee een visuele analyse van het werk van twee Zuid-Aziatische kunstenaars, Lala Rukh en Sheba Chhachhi, die niet alleen kunstwerken hebben gemaakt, maar ook instrumenten en plekken hebben ontwikkeld om vrouwen in hun gemeenschappen te mobiliseren om via eigen visuele talen hun rechten op te eisen. Hierna volgt een collage-activiteit waarin deelnemers hun eigen posters maken, afgesloten met een moment om de collages te delen en te reflecteren.

Basismaterialen worden beschikbaar gesteld, maar deelnemers worden aangemoedigd om eigen printmateriaal, papier en tijdschriften mee te nemen die voor de collage gebruikt kunnen worden. We hebben ook snacks.

Dit evenement valt binnen Varia’s onderzoekslijn Counter-Coloniality Seed en wordt ondersteund door het Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie.

Yen Yi Lee is an independent curator and writer based in Taipei, Taiwan, and the founder of the art writing publication HAGAI. She holds an MFA from University of Edinburgh. Her long-term curatorial research explores digital culture, the intersections of technology and society, and feminist perspectives on spaces of absence, with a recent turn toward reinterpreting Romanticism. In 2023, she was selected by the Ministry of Culture for a curatorial residency at ISCP in New York. Her curatorial works have been presented at the Filmfest Dresden, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei Artist Village, and Digital Art Center Taipei.

In the poster there are two archival photographs with cut out marks around them and a scissors icon in the corner. In one image women and children are dancing together, smiling. In another they are screenprinting as a group with 1 silkscreen between them, it appears they are making an image together. The title of the workshop “Moving Fragments” sits in the middle of the page. It uses a font reminiscent of wood block print. The background has a texture like homemade paper.
