The Band on the spot: Jamming as art methodology workshop invites women, femmes and queers that are interested in punk, grunge and hard-rock sub-genres of art and music, to improvise with mediums of sound, text, drawing, performance.
The aim of the workshop is to navigate between performance and experience, inviting participants to touch on sound-inspired, auto-fictional, fragmentary and archival material, in order to experiment with and establish tools for developing them.
Participants will be free to participate with their mediums of choice - music instruments, voice, text, drawing or movement and are free to bring their music instruments, or other material or props they might like to work with.
The workshop, limited to five participants, doesn’t requite previous experience in music. The duration is two and a half hours, followed by rest reflection and warm soup.
AnnaMaria Pinaka is an artist, researcher and educator, workings across painting, video and performance. She employs auto-ethnographic and auto-fictional methodologies, and uses child-ness, girlhood, queer femme-ness and their semantics, as visual codes. Her recent research focuses on women’s iconography, and the (im)possibilities of a coexistence between the figure of a princess and that of a femme punk and hard rock musician. In this context she founded her fictional band of punk princesses Baby’s Breath in 2025. Her work has been presented at Rhizome (BE), Mimosa House (UK) and the 6th Athens Biennale, amongst others. Her first solo show stay with me, I’ll give you jewls (2023) was curated by Ioanna Gerakidi at opbo studio, in Piraeus. In 2025, her solo show She Keeps Them Warm With Her Skirt was held at ROZENSTRAAT a rose is a rose is a rose, Amsterdam, curated by Angeliki Tzortzakaki and Madelon van Schie.
