Summer is almost over; time to go back to school, or better yet… to Extratonal! We kick off our second semester of extratonality this year with three thought-provoking performances. Ali Robertson will follow up on his workshop in the afternoon, Maoro Bultheel will land his UFO and Kate Bjork is on endless rotation during this latest edition of Extratonal Infrastructure.

Ali Robertson has been making himself & others blush as the Giant Tank Institute For Low-Brow Avant-Thought’s resident organiser/improviser for more than two decades. Until comparastively recently he courted public shame in the duo Usurper,with Malcy Duff, but now exercises his unfunny bone as one half of Off Brand, with Firas Khnaissr, and as one third of Black Affrontit, with Karen Constance & Dylan Nyoukis, while sporadically pleading for redemption via the altogether more wholesome Sonic Bothy Ensemble.

Maoro Bultheel from Brussels will showcase two of his latest projects. RO-1 or Resonant Object 1 is an acoustic resonator that simulates the way acoustic instruments produce sound—by vibrating a material, usually a flat panel, but in this case a pyramid-like object. The UFO is a self made synthesizer/ midi interface that looks like a space ship, an attempt at making an interesting interface design with different sensors. It works a little bit like an omnichord and has a built in arpeggiator. Maoro Bultheel will do a performance where he shows off the capabilities of the resonator and the ufo using ableton live.
