How can we protect our websites from data scraping by tech giants? Will AI crawlers erase the internet? How can we make the web a safer space for expressions? ‘Greetings to AI Crawlers’ is a workshop exploring tactics and toolkits to deal with unwanted agents that abuse information on our web servers, making a lot of traffic. It invites everyone interested in the questions: how do we make the web safer, while keeping it DIY and personal. At the event you can expect an introduction to the concepts of bot and user agents in the web context, as well as a few basic server configurations that can be made by small server operators and/or users of main servers. On top of that, how to code a simple webpage by hands + a HTML encrypting tool will be also shared. Come by and explore!

Required materials: No technical knowledge is required. Feel free to bring your laptop, if you would like to try out the introduced techniques. Project funded by: Stimuleringsfonds

Artist: Nami Kim

Artist Bio: Nami Kim (She/Her) is a Rotterdam (NL) and Linz (AT) based artist. She researches on autonomous web interface cultures. Nami runs ‘HTML Zine Club’, a web community for people, who love making personal websites. Currently she is developing a project called ‘Safety Nets: Let Me Zine’, supported by the Talent Development Grant from Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie (NL). In this project, she explores safety measures for personal websites.
