Varia has received public programme funding since 2021 that covers a fair amount of our own and our guests fees. We want culture to be accessible and therefore we choose to offer our events for free or through “a pay what you can” scheme. Receiving reoccuring cultural funding is not something we take for granted as it becomes harder and harder within a climate of budget cuts for culture. That said, in order for Varia to continue to exist and thive, and in order to maintain our space and digital infrastructure, we need as much support as we can get.
Alongside our public programme we collectively maintain our space, host our digital infrastructure and manage our finances and communication.
Our Costs
Based on 2025, these are our current monthly costs:

Varia members contribute to the running cost of the space through a quarterly membership fee of €105. Per month this covers €525 of our costs. However, not all Varia members are able to cover this cost every quarter. This leaves a general remainder of around €764.

Merch
To help fund the maintenance of Varia’s collective space and digital infrastructure, we are working on developing a series of merch items using upcycled and leftover materials.
We have hand printed a short run of t-shirts using handcut lino. The t-shirts feature the neither fish nor fowl logo made by Varia member Yoana Buzova, and other messages related to our work. The t-shirts are available in a variety of sizes for €20. Each shirt is handprinted and may contain inconsistencies. Some t-shirts are secondhand. If you are interested in supporting Varia by buying a t-shirt you can buy the shirts in the space or email us at info@varia.zone with your requested size.
We also have a small number laser-cut keychains featuring the same logo on leftover extruded acrylic 3mm sheets. They are also available in the space for €7.5.
